The club, which often struggled to fill two senior sides in the South West competition this season due to player unavailability, has sent a call out for players and volunteers in the hope it will remain viable for years to come.

Despite struggling to fill its division one and division three teams on a few occasions this season, the club did manage to celebrate a few wins in both grades.

In the division three team, the club boasted one of the league’s oldest players (in his late 60s) and one of the youngest (in 12 year-old Sam Mahncke).

Next week’s meeting, to be held in the Woorndoo clubrooms from 7.30pm on Tuesday, will discuss how the club can move forward, attract new players and volunteers and retain those already committed.

Club spokesperson Amanda Mahncke said cricket not only offers a sporting outlet for young and old, but also a social outlet for the local community.

“It’s not just about a game of cricket, it’s about community,” Mrs Mahncke said.

“Our club is crying out for players and volunteers. Like so many community groups, we rely on our volunteers week after week and unfortunately we’re struggling for numbers at the moment.

“We are keen to remain viable for not only the future of our club but for the South West association as a whole. We had two players this year, Luke Smith and Brendan Mahncke, finish in the top 10 batting in the South West Cricket Association in their respective divisions.”

The club recently held its annual presentation evening.

Division one awards were presented to Luke Smith (batting aggregate), Nelson Loader (bowling and fielding aggregates), Jake Fowler (bowling), Tom Gray (fielding) and Cricket of the Year Jason Fowler and Luke Smith.

The division three award recipients were Brendan Mahncke (batting and Cricketer of the Year), Greg Parry (bowling) and Sam Mahncke (fielding).
