CAMPERDOWN shoppers had to watch their step when a two metre long tiger snake paid Manifold Street a visit today.
The snake was spotted on the footpath in front of Pizza Magic at about 4pm.
A passer-by noticed the snake and assumed it was a rubber snake put their as a joke.
The snake then moved and dispelled all doubt it was real.
Sunning itself on the bitumen footpath, the snake periodically hid behind a drainpipe built into the building’s frontage and the footpath.
Corangamite Shire officers attended and warned approaching shoppers of the snake’s presence and asked them to make a wide arch around it.
Shire local laws officer Warren Stewart was eventually able to use a dog lasso to contain the snake which was then placed into a lidded bucket to be kept until a licenced snake catcher arrived.
The origins of the snake were unknown.
