CAMPERDOWN’S Jen Rowan is set to have the crowd on her side this weekend when she vies for the title of Miss Camperdown Cruise Pin Up.
Taking on the persona of Miss Ivy Pearl, Ms Rowan hopes to follow-up on the success of local contestants Lucy Keogh and Jo Williams, who took out the title for the last two years.
“About three years ago my music tutor, Peter Daffy, had us busking at the Cruise,” she said.
“That’s when I realised I loved getting dressed up and I already loved the rockabilly music and op shopping, so competing in the Miss Pin Up seemed like a great way to combine all those passions.”
Having viewed both Ms Williams’ and Ms Keogh’s pin up heats on YouTube, Ms Rowan made the decision to take on the challenge.
“The girls both told me how much fun it was and how many new friends they made, so that spurred me on,” she said.
Since then Ms Keogh and locals Sarah Pollard and Paula McKenzie have been helping get Ms Rowan prepared.
“Sandra Drake from Joker’s Costume Shop has also come on board as a sponsor and given me great support with outfits and accessories,” Ms Rowan said.
“Without giving too much away, I can say that I’ll be performing as a singer from the 40s and 50s and my music will be a big part of the routine.
“After Camperdown winning the title for the last two years, it might be a bit tougher for me this year, but that doesn’t matter, as long as I have fun.
“It would be great if as many locals as possible come out to support me, getting a big cheer from the crowd will really spur me on.”
The Miss Camperdown Cruise Pin Up competition gets under way in the Rockabilly Room (Theatre Royal) from 1pm Saturday.
