V/Line punctuality remains below target
PERFORMANCE on the Warrnambool line has continued to fall well below targets throughout April.
During April, punctuality performance on the Warrnambool line dipped to just 53.9 per cent of services arriving within six minutes of expected times.
The figure marks the lowest monthly punctuality performance result on the Warrnambool line for 2024, and lowest since September 2023.
The reliability performance result for April was 93.5 per cent of services running as planned, slightly below the performance target of 96 per cent.
A V/Line spokesperson said ongoing upgrades to the Warrnambool line continued to impact performance due to Track Force Protection and temporary speed restrictions, which ensures the safety of workers while allowing trains to run at the same time as upgrades are carried out.
“Work is continuing on Stage two of the Warrnambool Line Upgrade which will enable VLocity trains to run to and from Warrnambool for the first time,” the spokesperson said.
“While crews continue to deliver these critical upgrades on the Warrnambool Line, we encourage passengers to check the temporary timetable to help plan their journey.”
Work continues on upgrades to train detection technology at more than 50 level crossings as part of Stage two of the Warrnambool Line Upgrade.
Axle counters are being installed at these level crossings, along with boom gates, bells and flashing lights at 17 of the crossings which will make them compatible with VLocity trains.
A temporary train timetable for the Warrnambool Line is in place while these works progress.
Weekday trains to the city are departing up to six minutes earlier from Warrnambool, Sherwood Park and Terang stations.
Weekday trains from Southern Cross to Warrnambool will arrive approximately six minutes later.
