$1K donation to feed families
CAMPERDOWN’S Pastoral and Agricultural Society (P and A Society) is looking back on a productive year, commemorating their work by donating to the Foodbank.
The P and A Society donated $1000 to the Camperdown and District Community House Food Bank on Tuesday, which will allow for the purchase of more non-perishable food items, pet food and other supplies.
Camperdown and District Community House coordinator Emily Mercer gave society members a tour of the storage facility and explaining the process of providing food hampers.
Attending P and A Society members were also shown the Community Garden.
Ms Mercer said the Community House’s Food Bank was the only one servicing Corangamite Shire and has been receiving increasing amounts of donations from various community groups.
“We cannot thank the P and A Society for this donation, as it allows us to continue to sustain this much needed service. The P and A Society do so much for our community,” she said.
“This amazing group are volunteers and give their time, skills and passion so generously to maintain the showgrounds, provide space for a vibrant community precinct including the Corangamite Arts and Men’s Shed groups and spaces for our workshops and other community activity, not to mention bringing us the Camperdown Show, such a fantastic community event.
“Every dollar donated to our Food Bank service is used for the service, purchasing non-perishable food items, non-food essential items (nappies, personal hygiene products etc.) and pet food.
“We must also thank the Terang Community Op Shop and Simpson Lion Club for also donating this amount to the service towards the end of last year, along with the support and donations raised by Camperdown CWA evening branch, Camperdown Veterinary Centre, Camperdown Theatre Company, Camperdown Woolworths and South West Community Foundation.”
P and A Society president Cheryl McMahon said the society has had a successful year, with many new members stepping up for the annual Camperdown Show and other activities.
“We still would love to see more people get involved in the showgrounds as we are all volunteers and there is much to do,” she said.
“This includes the annual show and the administration and management of the showgrounds.
“If you have an interest in event management, administration, social media or an interest in industry, agriculture, entertainment or just want to get involved in the community, think about becoming a part of the showgrounds community and the P and A Society.”
The P and A Society’s annual general meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 6 at 7pm at the Leura Pavilion.
