On Tuesday, September 23 from 10am, on the corner of North South Road and Curdievale-Port Campbell Road, community members will gather to plant native seedlings and assist in creating biodiversity.

The planting day is the result of a joint effort between Heytesbury District Landcare Network (HDLN) and Newfield Valley Landcare Group.

HDLN vice president Chris Hibburt said the day would provide an opportunity for the community to help shape native flora in the area.

“Participants will have the chance to plant tubes along the Timboon to Port Campbell bike trail on North South Road,” he said.

“Many people do not have the opportunity to plant trees on private land so having a community tree planting project gives them that option.

“There is also the reward of contributing to improving the biodiversity of our landscape as well as propagating plants that absorb CO2 to combat climate change.

“It is best to plant native species as they will survive best and also offer a habitat that is conducive to our native fauna.

“This area has been chosen as it will provide protection to users of the bike trail as well as improve its aesthetic value.”

Everyone is welcome to attend and no RSVP is necessary – simply turn up on the day ready to get your hands dirty.
