Timboon Bakery benefits from funding
THE Timboon Bakery could soon be reopening its doors as it was approved for funding of $3500 under Corangamite Shire Council’s Business Assistance Scheme (BAS).

At last month’s Ordinary Meeting of Council, Timboon Bakery was the sole business who applied for funding under the scheme, which is designed to provide businesses, building owners and community with the opportunity to apply for support.
The recommendation to approve the funding was moved by councillor Jamie Vogels who said this was a great opportunity to back a local business.
“This is a great example of council delivering on their promise to back local businesses and to strengthen our towns,” he said.
“This Business Assistance Scheme is part of Grow and Prosper Corangamite and it provides support to local businesses, creative industries and community enterprises – the very people who make our shire vibrant.
“Their project will reopen the bakery in Timboon with an upgraded shopfront with new windows and new doors, repainting and new signage and landscaping.
“It’s small grant, $3500 excluding GST, but it has a big impact on how the business looks and feels to the locals and visitors.”
Cr Vogels said with Timboon becoming an increasing tourist destination, the funding would support the growth and prospering of the town.
“Timboon is one of our top tourism hotspots now, supporting a quality, welcoming streetscape, that benefits not just one business but benefits the whole town,” he said.
“With the bakery refreshed, attractive frontage can now once again draw foot traffic and reinforce Timboon’s reputation as a favoured destination.
“We allocated $50,000 in the budget to the BAS and after this grant we still have $39,500 remaining to support more projects this year.
“This is exactly the type of project the BAS was designed for – small scale, high visibility improvements that help businesses thrive and communities prosper and I fully support the recommendation.”
Councillor Nick Cole seconded the motion, agreeing with Cr Vogels about Timboon becoming a growing tourist destination.
“I will say that Timboon is a very much visited town nowadays,” he said.
“If you head in there at lunchtime you are flat out to get a park in the main street or around the area.
“There’re quite a few places down there where you can buy takeaway food or sit in and have a meal.
“There’s a lot of people driving around that area, coming up from the coast getting lunch and spending a few bucks.
“Having this business rehashed and rebuilt and renewed and loved would be a big asset to Timboon itself.”
The BAS is ongoing throughout the year and provides funding through four streams – business façade improvement, creative industries and placemaking, community enterprise and fees and enabling infrastructure.
Timboon Bakery applied under stream one, business facade improvement, and was placed before council with the recommendation to approve the funding.
The motion was moved unanimously.
