Tigers hang on to fifth

AT the halfway mark of the Mininera League season, Woorndoo Mortlake currently sits fifth, just percentage above last year’s premiers Tatyoon.

The Tigers slipped to fifth following last weekend’s 116-point loss to neighbours Wickliffe Lake Bolac.

Playing in front of a home crowd, the Tigers struggled to keep up with the Magpies on the scoreboard throughout the day.

The visitors showed dominance from the first bounce, booting 5.4 in the opening term while containing the Tigers to 1.3.

By half-time the Magpies had opened up a 61-point lead which was extended to 94 points by three-quarter time thanks to an eight-goal term.

Final scores on the siren were Wickliffe Lake Bolac 26.17.173 to Woorndoo Mortlake 8.9.57.

Best for the Tigers were Tom Gough, Mac Shaw, Simon Atkinson and Hans Petersson-Dunn.

Goals went to Simon Atkinson (2), Jordan Buckley, Jesse Horan, Tyler Humphrey, Kane Killen, Byron Loader and Matthew Pemberton.

Earlier in the day the Tigers’ reserves went down to the Magpies by 59-points, 2.8.20 to 11.13.79.

Geordie MacDonald and Lachlan Waters kicked a goal each while Matthew Bourchier, Rhys Casson, Tom Carmichael, Charles Kenny and Shannon Heron were named in the best.

Last Saturday’s round of netball games was moved to Lake Bolac while resurfacing was underway at Woorndoo.

Results from those matches were as follows:

A grade – Woorndoo Mortlake defeated Lake Bolac 63-28. Best players: Sadie Lienert and Elise Killen.

B grade – Woorndoo Mortlake defeated Lake Bolac 60-11. Best: Sarah Muir and Shona Makepeace.

C grade – Woorndoo Mortlake defeated Lake Bolac 23-13. Best: Chloe Eastwood and Julia Stern.

18 and under – Woorndoo Mortlake defeated Lake Bolac 51-14. Best: Elise Killen and Mia Richie.

13 and under – Woorndoo Mortlake defeated Lake Bolac 27-4. Best: Lacey Killen and Ivy Wardlaw.
