Tigers break the drought

WOORNDOO/Mortlake has snapped a six game losing streak with a thumping 139-point win over Caramut in the round 14 senior football match on Saturday.


The Tigers dominated every quarter in their 25.15.165 to 4.2.26 win at the Caramut Recreation Reserve.

Eleven different goalkickers featured for Woorndoo/Mortlake, with Kane Magheamez leading the way with four majors.

James Coghlan West, Jai Middleton and Jack Spokes kicked three each for the Tigers, with Chris Crawley, Tyson Osborne, Tom Carmichael, Jack Richie and Kane Killen slotting through two each.

Caramut coach Scott Judd was the Swans main goal kicker with two to his name.

Jack Richie, Kane Killen, Jai Middleton and Ed Gubbins were best for Worrndoo/Mortlake in the win.

For the Swans, best were Devon Coates, Jackson Brown and Joel Harriss.

The win keeps finals hopes alive for Woorndoo/Mortlake, with the Tigers in sixth place, half a game behind Tatyoon.

This week the Tigers will host Great Western at Woorndoo, while Caramut play Hawkesdale/Macarthur at Hawkesdale.

The reserves match saw Woorndoo/Moortlake score a 15.10.100 to 2.5.17 win.

Best for the Tigers were Blake Lane, Aaron Smith and Hunter Lynch, with Lynch kicking four goals and two each to Lane and Jacob Leehane.

Caramut’s best were Roha Allen, Drew Hassett and Damian Jones, with Jones and Lachlan Higginson kicking a goal each.

In the under 16.5 football, top of the ladder Caramut had a huge win, kicking 32.19 to no score.

Carl Lehmann bagged nine goals for the Swans and was their best along with Spurs Lynch, Finneaus Dennis, Toby Pearse and James Heazlewood.

Lynch kicked six goals, Angus Rowe kicked four with Taj O'Brien kicking three for Caramut.

Best for the Woorndoo/Mortlake under 16.5s were Nicholas Krepp, Emmet Sheaves, Sam Mahncke, Johno Carmody and Bailey Fox.

In the A grade netball, Woorndoo/Mortlake scored a convincing 46-24 win.

“Once finals were out of the question for us, we just wanted to make sure we finish the year off strong,” Woorndoo/Mortlake coach Bec Rohan said.

“The feeling was pretty good Saturday, we played a strong game despite still having a few out.”

Brooke Richardson and Amelia Barry were best for the Tigers, with Richardson and Elise Killen both shooting 23 goals.

“Brooke and Elise combined really well as a new combination,” Rohan said.

But it was the juniors who really impressed Rohan with their contributions.

“We had Ava Wardlaw from the under 18s and Ash Killen from the under 15s step up and play, they’re part of the talented group of juniors who work hard and train with the seniors.

“They both rotated through wing attack and had some solid time on court instead of just getting a few minutes; they both had a real crack.”

For Caramut, Kimberley Tebble and WhawhaKiterangi Hapuku were best, with Emilie Tonissen scoring 15 goals.

The B grade netball was closer, Woorndoo/Mortlake winning 37-35.

Sarah Cameron and Brodie Humphrey were best for the Tigers, Cameron scoring 28 goals.

Yolie O’Sullivan and Maddison Higginson were best for Caramut, with O’Sullivan scoring 20 goals and Chloe Anderson 15.

In C grade, Caramut had a big 54-8 win.

Rachel Hassett and Carmel Moloney were best for the Swans in the win, with Hassett scoring 38 goals.

Best for Woorndoo/Mortlake were Ella Jones and Amelia Horan.

Caramut took out the 18 and under netball with a 42-34 win.

Maddi Calvert and Emilie Tonissen were best for the Swans, with Marli McRae scoring 21 goals and Tonissen 12.

Ava Wardlaw shot 26 goals and was best for Woorndoo/Mortlake along with Maddison Cameron.

The 15 and under game saw Caramut win 31-29.

Yolie O’Sullivan scored 24 goals and was the Swans best along with Alex Lehmann.

Wynter Bradbury and Ivy Wardlaw were best for Woorndoo/Mortlake, with Indi Wardlaw shooting 21 goals.

In the 13 and under netball, Caramut had a narrow 21-18 win.

Grace O’Sullivan and Alex Lehmann were best for the Swans, with Lehmann scoring 15 goals.

Charlotte Allen and Lacey Killen were Woorndoo/Mortlake’s best, with Paige Maddock scoring 14 goals.
