Bookworm’s paradise: Lismore Community Health Centre’s Ladies Auxiliary will be raising funds through a combined book fair and garage sale.

The Lismore Community Health Centre Ladies Auxiliary will be hosting the book fair and garage sale in the Grimwade Rooms at the health centre on Saturday, March 16 and Sunday, March 17.

The centre, located at 102 High Street, Lismore, will open its doors from 9am to 3pm across the weekend to those looking for a bargain.

Ladies Auxiliary secretary Lorraine Graham said the goal is to raise funds for the Ladies Auxiliary to continue to support the health centre.

“We’ve bought things in the past, like lamps for the A and E (accident and emergency), chairs for the waiting room, and various other bits and pieces,” she said.

“Basically, we’re a support group, and we’re there to support the Lismore Health Centre.”

In the lead-up to the event, Ms Graham has called for donations from the community for the sale.

She said she had not been disappointed.

“We’ve got thousands of books that will be going very cheap,” Ms Graham said.

“We’re very grateful for the books we’ve got. Books, CDs, DVDs, videos – we’re very, very grateful for what we’ve been given.

“Now we’re hoping we get people in the door to buy them. Everything’s cheap.

“The other part of it is a garage sale, which is some excess stuff out of the health centre.

“There will be furniture like chairs and tables, and other bits and pieces that are no longer wanted or used.”

All items are priced to go, and Ms Graham is hoping people will be keen to come down and have a browse.

“Books, I believe, are still very much in vogue. I believe people still like to read them,” she said.

“We’ve got a great variety of types of books. You name it, we’ve probably got it.

“We certainly hope we can get the people in to buy the books.”

The Ladies Auxiliary will also put the kettle on for attendees, providing tea, coffee and biscuits for people to enjoy while browsing their wares.
