Terang Probus Club Notes

THE guest speakers at the Terang and District Probus Club continue to be well received and entertaining to the members.

By wd-news

Most recent speaker was Gary Tempany, the Terang Co-op chief executive officer.

Growing up in Kyabram in the Goulburn Valley, Gary got to enjoy the experience of fruit picking.

He started retail employment at the age of 14 and worked his way up the scale.

He later completed his MBA at Monash University.

He has worked in numerous businesses including Coles and Metcash.

He came to Terang from Mt. Barker Co-op, an enterprise not unlike Terang Co-op.

Gary informed us that the supermarket was in a healthy state.

They had no intention of installing self service but will continue to offer the good service that independent stores are often known for.

He also spoke about the proposed extensions, the garden centre being one of them.

Gary gave us a breakdown of the supermarket, hardware – trade and retail and Camperdown store.

It was very informative and more detail can be heard at the annual meeting, which he encouraged all members to attend.

Guest speaker at next month’s meeting is Don Bradshaw, who grew up in Terang and should provide an interesting insight into growing up in Terang as well as some information on the history of the Bradshaw family.

The Terang and District Probus club recently held a bus trip to the Werribee Zoo.

Terang members welcomed members from our neighbouring clubs in Timboon, Cobden and Camperdown to join us – 54 Probus members travelled in a Christians Coach to the zoo.

The cost of the bus was supplemented by the Josie Black Community Centre, and we would like to thank them for this wonderful sponsorship.

Highlights of the day included a trip on the Safari bus through the savannah grasslands and a visit to the new Elephant Trail.

We checked out the recently completed paintings by Warrnambool artist Jimmy Buscombe and enjoyed the antics of the meerkats (through the glass wall) as we relaxed with a cuppa in the café.

The next Terang and District Probus Club meeting is Monday, May 5 at 10am the Rose Room.
