Tehan unveils widespread funding pitch
AN elected Coalition Government will provide $36 million to fund road and infrastructure projects delivered by Wannon local councils.

Incumbent Member for Wannon Dan Tehan has committed to the reintroduction of the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, which provides a funding allocation to councils to deliver priority local road and community infrastructure projects in their area.
Mr Tehan announced a total of $5 million investment would flow to Corangamite Shire and $5.95 million for Moyne Shire if the Coalition is elected at next month’s Federal Election.
The investment for Corangamite Shire would be split between a $2.72 million fund for roads and a $2.28 million investment in community infrastructure.
Meanwhile in Moyne, the road funding would reach $3.2 million plus an additional $2.7 million for community infrastructure.
Mr Tehan, who has been a vocal proponent of the program, said the community had missed out after the program was scrapped.
“When the Albanese Labor Government axed this program, local councils across Wannon missed out on funding to deliver projects that they had identified as important and our community has suffered as a result,” he said.
“An elected Coalition Government will reintroduce this funding program and work with local councils to identify, fund and deliver these locally important projects.
“The responsibility to fix potholes and improve our roads or build important community infrastructure, like change sheds and public toilets, falls mostly on our local councils and that’s why the Coalition will support them to meet the community’s needs.”
Mr Tehan said previously funded projects in Wannon have included sealing of roads, rural culvert and drainage works, footpath construction, upgrades to sporting facilities such as Cobden Recreation Reserve and Hanlon Park netball courts and improvements to community facilities such as the Mud Brick Hut in Winchelsea.
Mr Tehan said he had been working with local councils across to Wannon to identify projects which would be eligible for funding under the Coalition’s commitment.
Projects he cited for example include upgrades to Darlington-Terang Road and the redevelopment of the Camperdown Theatre in Corangamite, and the replacement of Port Fairy’s Gipps Street Bridge and kitchen upgrades for the Koroit Football Netball Club in Moyne Shire.
