Sporting joy: Member for Wannon Dan Tehan announced a commitment from an elected Liberal Government at the Skipton Recreation Reserve recently.

Wannon candidate Dan Tehan announced the commitment to ensure all athletes – especially female athletes – have access to modern and safe sporting facilities in Skipton on Monday.

“I’ve had strong feedback from the Skipton community about the need for this redevelopment to support participation, access, and fairness in local sport,” Mr Tehan said.

“This funding will deliver new female change rooms, helping more people get involved and feel welcome.

“This commitment forms part of the Liberals’ plan to invest in regional communities and ensure Australians have access to the infrastructure they need to thrive.”

Community and grants officer for the Skipton Community and Recreation Reserve Megan Read said this investment would be transformational for local sport.

“This funding is a game-changer for us,” she said.

“It means we can finally provide proper facilities for our growing number of female players, ensuring they have the same opportunities and resources as their male counterparts.

“More than that, it makes our club a more inclusive space where everyone feels welcome and encouraged to participate.

“We couldn’t be more grateful to Dan for listening to our needs and working to support our initiatives.”

Corangamite Shire Mayor Councillor Kate Makin welcomed the announcement, noting council’s existing commitment of $300,000 towards the project.

“We welcome the election commitment to fund the council-backed Skipton Recreation Redevelopment,” she said.

“This long-standing priority for both the community and council has the potential to transform local recreational facilities.

“If delivered, this redevelopment will create new opportunities for the Skipton community, enabling residents of all ages and abilities to engage in activities that promote health and wellbeing.”
