Tales told and memories shared
THERE was plenty of laughter and chatter amid the roar of goals being scored at Mortlake’s DC Farran Oval last Friday.

The Anzac Day match between Terang Mortlake and Cobden was an extra special one on all accounts, with the Bloods recording their first senior footy win for the season and the Cats premiership side of 1975 enjoying a 50-year reunion.
According to club stalwart Robbie Jewell, the day (and night) was an extremely memorable one enjoyed by all.
“We all had an absolute ball,” he said.
“There was a huge crowd there to watch the footy and netball and we had 16 of our ’75 premiership side there to watch the games and reminisce.
“The Anzac Day tribute was also a special one, with a bugler from Warrnambool and Mortlake’s Julie Stewart Murray performed a beautiful rendition of the national anthem.”
Later in the night, the Cats’ commemorative jumpers were auctioned off, with all sold.
Under 16 player Sam Wareham, who made his senior debut for the Bloods earlier in the day (and was presented with his senior jumper by 1975 premiership player Douglas Rogerson) was later gifted the jumper by Doug’s son, Lachie, who had purchased it at auction.
“That in itself no doubt made his debut even more special for young Sam,” Jewell said.
“There was also the presentation of a Hampden League life membership to Graeme Twaddle who has given decades of service.
“It truly was a great day and night all round.”
