Take away closed due to health violations
A LOCAL takeaway store has been closed due to alleged health and safety violations.
Corangamite Shire Council announced on Monday afternoon that Simpson Takeaway has been closed for alleged offences under the Food Act 1984.
The Food Act 1984 specifies actions the relevant authority can make if food is determined to have been prepared in a premise which is unclean, unsanitary or in a state of disrepair.
A Corangamite Shire Council spokesperson said the premises, located at Lavers Hill-Cobden Road in the heart of Simpson, were closed by council on Monday, April 7 under Section 19 of the Food Act 1984.
“The premises at 2379 Lavers Hill-Cobden Road was found to be in an unsanitary condition and an order to close the restaurant has been issued under the Victorian Food Act 1984,” the spokesperson said.
Corangamite Shire Council did not specify what violations had been discovered in regards to the establishment being in “unsanitary conditions”.
The closure will remain in place for an unspecified period of time, but the Corangamite Shire Council spokesperson said specific conditions must be met before the establishment can open its doors again.
“The Simpson Takeaway premises is prohibited from operating the premises as a food business in relation to the preparation and sale of food until specific items have been complied with to the satisfaction of an authorised council environmental health officer,” the spokesperson said.
