Swans break the drought

LAST weekend’s 32-point win over Moyston Willaura has broken a long, winless drought for Caramut footballers.

“This was a win for the community and everyone who puts so much time into the club,” Caramut coach Scott Judd said.

While he didn’t want to single anyone out for the Swan’s drought-breaking win, he was full of praise for his side.

“It was a great reward for the efforts of the Caramut community and club committee who are so invested,” he said.

It had been 1050 days since Caramut’s last win, with Judd adding the club had been hopeful of an early season win – and thrilled to start the season with one.

It was only during the last quarter that the Swans coach allowed himself to think that they had the win.

“Halfway through the last quarter we had that four goal buffer, both teams were tired from the hot conditions, I knew our fitness would carry us through,” he said.

“It was nice to be in that position and not having to come from behind.

“Our fitness let us down last year, probably cost us a couple of wins, it's definitely something we've worked on.”

Jackson Brown, Luke Tebble and Bailey Kelp were named as Caramut’s best, with Tebble kicking six goals.

Judd is now aiming for more.

“One win is great but we want to build on that and have more success,” he said.

Moyston/Willaura won the reserves match by 32 points, Joel Hariss was named Caramut best, with Phil Edwards kicking four goals in a losing cause.

Caramut had a 103 point win in the under 16.5s, with Finneaus Dennis named best player and Spurs Lynch kicking six goals.

The Swans also had a great day on the netball court, winning five out of six games.

WhaWha Hapuku was best on court in the 19 goal win by the A grade team.

Cloe Folkeswas named best in the B grade team’s 21 goal win, with Kristy Lehman best player in the six goal win by the C grade team.

In the junior games, Emilie Tonissen was best in the under 18s one goal loss, Yollanda O’Sullivan best in the under 15s 27 goal win, with Montana Redmond named best on court in the under 13s massive 55 goals to one win.
