Last Friday the school hosted a Grandparents and Special Friends Day, opening the classrooms for students to bring in cherished family and friends for a guided tour.

St Thomas’ Primary School teacher and assistant principal Annalise Bouchier said the day was about celebrating the connection students have with the special people in their lives.

“This is about welcoming grandparents and special friends, giving them an opportunity to go through the classrooms and see the work the children have been doing,” she said.

“It’s also an opportunity for the students to interact with those close to them, learning about life when they were at school and sharing in experiences.

“Some of the students did their own little interviews to learn things about their grandparents.

“The parents put together most of the food so they could all share lunch together, chat and talk and also meet with the staff.

“It’s quite a nice community event.”

Mrs Bouchier thanked teachers Lisa Cavarsan and Rebecca Conheady for their efforts to display student artwork in the school’s undercover area.

“They had put so much effort into displaying the student’s artwork,” she said.

“They do an amazing job.

“Students learn about all sorts of art forms and present it.

“It is wonderful to see because the students are really proud to bring their grandparents and special friends over into their school.”
