Students recognised for representation of peace
THE Mortlake Lions Club has recognised two students for their selfless message of love and unity through this year’s annual peace poster competition.

Students from St Colman’s Primary School and Mortlake College again took part in in the international competition, in which Lions Clubs from across the globe work with students and youth groups to design posters which promote peace and inspire involvement in art.
Members of the Mortlake Lions Club had a difficult decision picking out winners from both schools in town, but this year saw Alex Lehman selected as the winner from St Colman’s Primary School and Summer Jones named winner at Mortlake College.
Mortlake Lions Club president Heather Rowe said all students involved had done a “fantastic” job of designing their posters, and congratulated Summer and Alex on their well-deserved wins.
“Kids are the future, and we’re in a good position in they are committed to being the peace in the world,” she said.
Mortlake Lions Club member Julie Southwick said students had shown wonderful creativity in representing their aspirations for peace.
“The entries were great,” she said.
“It’s just so great to see that they all have the right idea.
“It’s the same with good and bad – if you get to them when they’re young and encourage them to think the right way.”
