Strong start from Cats
MORTLAKE ended day one of their round five Warrnambool Moyne District Cricket Association two-day match against West Warrnambool with 198 runs to defend this week.

Winning the toss and batting at the DC Farran Oval, Mortlake was dismissed in the 78th over.
“We were looking pretty good early but lost a few through the middle and were struggling at 7/130,” Mortlake co-captain Todd Lamont said.
“We were looking to set around 200 so we were reasonably happy with our score.”
Opener Adam Atwood made 22 from 83 balls, with number three Will Kain scoring 28 from 41 balls.
“It was a good batting deck, though the ground was on the slow side.
“Adam did all the hard work to set us up, Will was a bit more free flowing.”
Saman Gonawala top scored for Mortlake, with 53 from 96 balls, his second half century of the season.
“Saman is one of the best bats in the competition, he’s in really good form.
“He hasn’t converted one of his starts into a really big score, I’m sure that’s not too far around the corner.”
Co-captains Lamont, with 31 from 70 balls, and Craig Britten, with 23 from 50 balls, put on a crucial 59 run eighth wicket partnership to help the Cats get to their eventual total.
“The wicket played really well and was consistent,” Lamont said.
“If we bowl well we are every chance.”
