Strong finish from Demons
TIMBOON’S senior footballers have finished their season on a strong note, defeating fifth-placed Old Collegians by 20 points at the Timboon Recreation Reserve.

The 10.8.68 to 7.6.48 win put the Demons level with Old Collegians on 32 points, Collegians superior percentage denying Timboon a finals berth.
“It was a good win, and pleasing to finish with a win over a team who will play finals,” Timboon coach Andrew Hargreaves said.
It was a big day for two Timboon stalwarts, with ruckman Marcus ‘Barney’ Hickey playing his 262nd and final senior game for the club, and midfielder Ben Newey playing his 200th senior game.
“It was a bit emotional after the game, Barney and Ben certainly played huge roles in the win,” Hargreaves said.
Hickey was named best on ground and kicked two goals in his senior football farewell.
“He kicked two important goals and gave us first use in the ruck all day,” Hargreaves said of his retiring big man.
Two hundred-gamer Newey was part of a midfield group along with Mitch Wallace and Johno Benallack that Hargreaves had plenty of praise for.
“That midfield group was huge in the result, they were really strong in moving the ball forward all day.”
Tomas Lindquist also played a key role in the win.
“Tomas was fantastic at centre half back for three quarters, he would have had at least 10 uncontested marks,” Hargreaves said.
“We swung him to full forward in the last quarter and he really delivered, kicking two big goals.”
The Demons ran right over Collegians in the final term, kicking six goals to one.
“Barney and Ben really did will us over the line.”
Seventeen year-old Josh McKenzie was also pivotal in the win.
“Josh was incredible, he had nine tackles in the last quarter, he’s taken to senior footy extremely well.”
While disappointed to miss finals, there’s plenty of positives for Hargreaves out of 2025.
“We’re not far off, up to eight wins this year from six last year.
“We never had the same team two weeks in a row and used 50 players at senior level in 2025.
“We got some really good game time into some young players, kids like Tommy Illingworth and Nathan Ellemor really established themselves as senior footballers.
“Our junior program is going extremely well; the future is bright.”
Timboon had a 44-point win in the reserves football, 9.7.61 to 1.11.17.
Jack Matthews, Richard Couch and Eben White were the Demon’s best, with White kicking four goals.
Senior coach Hargreaves lined up for his fourth reserves game for the season and 100th club game for the Demons overall.
The Demons reserves finished the home and away season in fourth spot and will play Merrivale on Sunday in an elimination final.
Timboon had a 6.8.44 to 0.2.2 win in the under 18 football.

The under 18 Demons finished in fifth place and will play Allansford in the elimination final.
In the under 15 football, Old Collegians had a 4.12.36 to 1.1.7 win.
