State honours for Hanks

COBDEN cricketer Abbie Hanks has earnt selection in the Victorian Country Cricket League’s (VCCL) female team of the year for the 2024/25 season.

Hanks, an off-spin bowler, has been selected as the team’s spinner for her strong season with the ball.

Hanks took 18 wickets at the miserly average of 5.78 for Cobden in the Warrnambool Moyne District Cricket Association women’s competition in 2024/25 to be the competition’s leading wicket taker.

A haul of 5/5 against Mortlake was her best performance, with Hanks taking three wickets in matches against Koroit and Dennington.

Hanks also proved more than handy with the bat, scoring 255 runs at an average of 31.88.

The team and other awards will be presented at the VCCL’s annual general meeting at Victorian cricket headquarters in St Kilda on Sunday.
