Stadium set to open next Friday

A FUN, free family evening will highlight Camperdown Stadium’s role as a central hub for community sports, recreation and social connection.

The ‘Showcase and Open Evening’ will be on Friday, June 6 from 3.45-7pm at the stadium, located at 2 Fuller Street, Camperdown.

Corangamite Shire Council recreation officer Ricky Birmingham invited residents of all ages and abilities to experience the stadium’s first-class facilities and enjoy an evening of sports, activities, and craft.

“The event brings together several local sporting organisations including the Corangamite Lions (soccer), Camperdown Badminton, and Camperdown and District Mixed Netball (canteen),” he said.

“Attendees will also enjoy exhibition matches from Camperdown and District Junior Netball as well as ‘come and try’ clinics from Corangamite Lions and Camperdown Badminton where they can learn new badminton and soccer skills from experienced coaches.

“The South West Academy of Sport (SWAS), the peak high-performance Academy for South West Victoria, will also be participating, with a range of activities.”

Mr Birmingham said visitors will have the unique opportunity to shoot hoops with Australian Olympic medallist Penny Smith, who will speak at the event.

“We’re excited to open our doors and welcome the community to experience everything Camperdown Community Stadium has to offer,” he said.

“This event showcases our commitment to hosting local sporting competitions and providing a space where our community can come together.”

In addition to sporting activities, attendees can enjoy a complimentary barbecue between 5–6.30pm, free games and activities for all ages, free craft and the stadium’s canteen facilities.
