TWO transformers weighing more than 400 tonnes combined were slowly transported to Mortlake Power Station last month.

A super load carrying two 205-tonne transformers made the journey from Geelong Port to Mortlake in the early hours of the morning in shifts spanning across multiple days.

Each transport weighed around 355.5 tonnes, was 78 metres long and travelled at speeds of up to 60km/h.

When travelling over bridges or around corners, the loads slowed to around 5km/h.

At around five metres wide, these loads took up the entire width of some roads.

The first transport left Geelong Port overnight on Saturday, July 26 before arriving at Birregurra by 5am.

The second leg of the journey commenced overnight on Monday, July 28.

The second load made the same journey for the first leg on the Sunday before arriving in Mortlake on July 31.

Both loads travelled along the Princes Highway through Colac, Cobden-Stonyford Road, Camperdown-Cobden Road, the Princes Highway through Boorcan.

A turnoff at Mackinnons Bridge Road took the loads through to Noorat before travelling Terang-Mortlake Road and arriving at the Mortlake Power Station on Connewarren Lane by 4am.
