Session on online banking safety next week

CORANGAMITE Shire Council is inviting senior residents to a free, informative session on safe online banking at the Killara Centre in Camperdown.

A practical ‘Banking Safely Online’ workshop will be presented by a representative from the Cobden and District Community Bank on Wednesday, June 18 from 10am.

The session will cover how to spot and avoid online scams, protect personal and financial information, and use online banking tools with confidence.

Coordinator Positive Ageing and Inclusion Belinda Rowbottom said this session is timely and important.

“Scams are becoming more sophisticated and harder to detect,” she said.

“In 2024 alone, seniors in Victoria lost over $27 million to scams.

“This session will empower our older residents with the knowledge and tools to bank safely online.”

Service navigation support officer Lesa Best encouraged seniors to take advantage of the opportunity.

“Learning to use online banking can increase your independence,” she said.

“With fewer physical branches, it’s important to know how to manage your finances digitally.

“Come along, ask questions, and get expert advice in a friendly, supportive environment.”
