Scouts to collect for Good Friday Appeal
THE young leaders of the Noorat Scouts will be out in force tomorrow to lead the annual Good Friday Appeal efforts in Terang.

The group will be shaking the tins as they criss-cross town in a bid to raise funds for the Royal Children’s Hospital as part of the 95th annual Good Friday Appeal.
The scouts will be led by Good Friday Appeal Terang area manager Rob Rowe, who is also the 1st Noorat Scouts group leader.
Mr Rowe said the cause was close to his heart as he’s been volunteering for the Good Friday Appeal for nearly 40 years, having started out as an eight-year-old wanting to make a difference in his community.
“I was living over at Cobden at the time and the local Quota club were the collectors,” he said.
“They put out a call for volunteers to help them out – so that’s what we did and I’ve done it ever since.
“I’ve only ever missed collecting for the Good Friday Appeal twice due to illness and I’ve been the Good Friday Appeal area manager here in Terang for a good 10 years now.”
Mr Rowe said he hoped additional volunteers would be able to lend a hand on the day, with the scouts operating the Good Friday Appeal from the Terang Returned and Services League sub-branch hall (1 Shadforth Street, Terang) from 9am on Friday, April 3.
“Many hands make light work, so we hope to make the point everyone is welcome to come on down on the day and volunteer,” he said.
“Even if it’s for an hour, half an hour or just collecting in their own street.
“There are ways we can do it.
“It’s tough because a lot of people do go away for Good Friday so people’s availability isn’t there, but how I see it is we all know someone who has used the Royal Children’s Hospital – either for ourselves or someone we know.
“That’s why Good Friday is sacrosanct to me.”
Due to logistical issues the Noorat Scouts won’t be collecting in Noorat on the Thursday (today) as usual, but Noorat residents were invited to visit the Terang RSL Hall on the day to make an in-person donation or to donate online – which can be done by scanning the QR code.
Mr Rowe said he could not be prouder of the effort the scouts put in to raise funds for those who need it most.
“They do such a great job,” he said.
“There are times where the kids are tired but they keep going to get the job done.
“They rock up every year and they’re consistent.
“They get the tubs together, lead the appeal on the day and help count and coordinate.
“There’s leadership, community and opportunity for the kids to grow in scouting by taking part in the Good Friday Appeal.”
