Saints jump Bombers early
ALLOWING Koroit to “get a start” last weekend proved costly at the end of the day, according to Cobden coach, Brody Mahoney.

“We gave them a start and that was the margin at the end,” Mahoney said when reflecting on the Bombers’ 25-point loss to the Saints at home on Saturday.
A six goal to two opening term was the difference as Cobden competed well for the remainder of the game.
“We were patchy early, slow to react and they caught us out the back which hurt; they are very skilful and don’t miss targets when they are out,” Mahoney said.
The injured Bombers coach was pleased with the way his troops fought back after a poor first 20 minutes.
“The boys really showed some heart, particularly in the heat.
“We were confident in our boys fitness, we've put in a really good pre-season, but that heat when the sun came out tested even the fittest guys.”
Mahoney was full of praise for his forwards.
“Big Alffie (Arthur Armstrong) was a strong marking target, he’s someone we can swing either end but was great up forward on Saturday.
“Big Mickey Koroneos was dangerous, he's always such a hard match up for the opposition.
“Matty Drayton has been a superb pick up, dangerous around goal, he set up a few and kicked three himself.”
Mahoney was impressed with Koroit and their game style.
“No doubt they had a rev up after their round one loss to Portland, they're a good young team.”
The Bombers coach felt that Koroit got them in the midfield contests and in clearances, adding “whoever was winning the stoppages was generally on top”.
“We responded well to their strong start but ultimately were playing catch up for the rest of the day,” Mahoney said.
Koroit had a strong day, with wins in the reserves, under 18s, under 16s and under 14s, with Cobden winning the under 12s.
Cobden’s next assignment is an ANZAC Day clash with Terang Mortlake at DC Farran Oval.
