The Tigers came back from the road trip with a nine-point win in the first match under new coach Damien Pemberton.

The home team were all over the Tigers early on, skipping out to a 14 point lead before the visitors scored, taking a 13 point lead at the first break.

Simpson kept chipping away at Apollo Bay over the next two quarters, the home team maintaining the lead right up until three-quarter time.

It was the pace of the younger Tigers which saw a strong last quarter, the visitors running over the top of Apollo Bay, kicking the only two goals of the term.

Full back Zach Harrop-Anderson was named as Simpson's best, repelling several attacks by the home team.

Ryleigh McVilly, Tom Leishman, Brenton De Jong and coach Pemberton were the pick of the midfielders, giving plenty of run as the game went on.

Experienced forward Nick Harding led the goal scorers for the match with three.

Simpson handed senior debuts to young pair Bailey Foster and Jack Balcombe, both acquitted themselves well.

In the earlier games, Simpson, led by four goals from Isaac Holland, had a 39 point win in the reserves, while Apollo Bay had 100 point plus wins in all three junior games.

This week sees Simpson host Otway Districts, also a round one winner, at Simpson.
