The team will be skippered for the first time by Aurelie Charbol, who will lead an experienced line-up of sailors including Lou Hollis, Wendy Thomas, Tapanga Barhart-Rankin and Megan Leersen.

While crew members havetheir sights set on a top-three finish, they say the regatta is about much more than results.

“We always hope to do well, but for us it’s also about the camaraderie, the connections, and enjoying the experience,” Megan said.

For the Derrinallum Yacht Club, one of the smaller country clubs on the circuit, the regatta offers not only the chance to compete against high-level opposition, but also to showcase the spirit and talent of their tight-knit sailing community.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for our club to be on the big stage,” Megan said.

“We love the challenge on the water and the friendships made off it; it’s what sailing is all about.”

The three-day regatta is expected to attract strong competition from across Australia, but Derrinallum’s crew is ready to take on the challenge, representing their town with pride.
