Rain finally arrives

HEAVY bouts of rain throughout June has seen the monthly rainfall soar far above the long-term average.

A total of 124.6mm of rainfall was recorded over Terang throughout June, a significant increase on the 78.3mm long-term average monthly result.

The result marks the first time in 2025 the monthly rainfall result has reached the long-term average in what has been viewed as a positive reprieve from the ongoing drought conditions.

The highest daily rainfall occurred on June 8 when a whopping 44mm of rain was recorded.

The June statistics were a significant increase from the year prior, with just 45mm of rain hitting the ground in June of 2024.

The result brings the total rainfall tally for Terang this year to 210mm, which remains far below the 339.4mm long-term average over the same period.

Mortlake also enjoyed a return of wet conditions with a total of 119mm of rain hitting the ground in June.

The tally was more than double the long-term monthly average of 56mm, in large part due to the heavy downpour experienced on June 8 of 41.2mm – the highest daily rainfall recorded during the month.

The total for June 2025 was almost 100mm of rain more than what was experienced in June 2024, when just 24.6mm of rain fell over Mortlake.

The result brings the tally for 2025 over Mortlake to 195.4mm, which remains well below the long-term average of 252.4mm over the same period.
