Planning continues to revitalise the Civic
WORKS to upgrade Terang’s iconic Civic Hall have been completed as the dedicated committee behind the efforts cast their eye to continued improvement.

The project to revitalise the Civic Hall has been years in the making and resulted in more than $80,000 invested.
The renovation of the flooring has recently been completed thanks to a $50,000 investment from the Victorian Government under the Tiny Towns Fund, allocated in 2024.
There was a further $30,000 in improvements which includes the installation of six reverse cycle air conditioners in the main hall and foyer, which makes heating both easier and cheaper.
The projector and the sound system have also been modernised.
The works were recently completed in addition to the building of a new storage area off the main hall to hold cleaning products.
A large new cupboard with overhead storage was also fitted along the north wall of the kitchen.
Terang Civic Hall Committee chairman Barry Wickham said the committee had already cast an eye to future projects to further improve the hall.
“Our future plans include new floor coverings in the kitchen, a chair lift to the stage and reorganising and extending the small kitchen off the main hall,” he said.
“We also plan to cover the stage with new timber which is the same as the main hall floor.
“We do have further plans to have murals of local interest painted in the window frames on the north wall of the main hall interior.
“Thanks to committee member Paul Blain for his work in preparing for this.
“We thank the work of committee member Mary Bell in achieving a grant of $50,000 from the Victorian Government’s Tiny Towns program.”
The current Terang Civic Hall Committee consists of Bob McIntosh (treasurer), Wendy Driscoll (booking agent and minute secretary), Wayne Reicha, Geoff Elford, Paul Blain, Marg Wickham, Kate Johnson, Mary Bell and Rhys Primrose.
Barry Wickham has returned as chairman as the committee looks to build upon their 35 years of dedicated work to ensure the Civic Hall remains as important to Terang’s future as it has to its past.
“The committee have one objective and that is to repair, improve and maintain this grand old building so it remains a very valuable asset for the community in the future,” he said.
“Contrary to the belief of most people, the Rotary Club do not get a dollar for this service.
“All proceeds from the hiring of the hall are retained in the Terang Civic Hall management account under the umbrella of the Corangamite Shire.
“The shire set the fees and continue to work with the committee to maintain this great facility in our town.
“My thanks go to all committee members for their valuable input during the year, also special thanks to the Corangamite Shire for their continued support.”
