Pink hearts to support charity
RESIDENTS are being encouraged to dig deep and help light up the town with pink hearts this month to support a locally run fundraiser.
To support the Camperdown Magpies Bowling Club’s pink morning tea and auction fundraiser on October 25, pink hearts will be on sale as part of fundraising efforts.
All funds raised from the sale of the hearts will go towards the McGrath Foundation – an organisation which provides cancer care nurses to cancer patients.
Organiser Michelle Elijah said residents can purchase either a $50 or $20 heart to put in the window of Benallacks with their name written on it.
“We came up with pink hearts – people can buy a pink heart to support somebody who has suffered cancer, gone through it or who have lost someone to cancer,” she said.
“They’re just different sizes – the $50 is the bigger size, at around the same size as the stickers put in the windows for Penny Smith and Grace Brown, and the $20 heart is about half the size of that
“It’s similar to the Relay for Life’s candles people used to have in honour of those dealing with cancer.
“Businesses who would like to support the initiative can put a pink window sticker in their window, or residents can come in and purchase a heart to go into the window at Benallacks.
“I’m hoping that, by the end of October, the whole window is fully of pink hearts.”
