Performance improves on Warrnambool line

TRAIN performance on the Warrnambool line is showing improvement following the recent completion of works.

Performance boost: Delivery of rail services on the Warrnambool line has continued to improve since the completion of works which have now allowed VLocity trains to run on the Warrnambool line for the first time.

Throughout October, 95.6 per cent of Warrnambool Line services were delivered as scheduled – marginally below V/Line’s reliability performance target of 96 per cent.

While an 87.8 per cent punctuality result fell short of the 92 per cent monthly target, the result was the highest recorded since November 2022.

“Warrnambool Line services were popular during October and we’ve now introduced more modern, reliable and accessible VLocity trains onto the line following major upgrade works,” a V/Line spokesperson said.

“We will be running more VLocity trains on the Warrnambool Line in December and adding a weekend return service to give passengers in the south-west more travel options.”

October marked the final month prior to the introduction of modern VLocity trains, which were introduced on the line on Friday, November 1.

From December 1 when a new timetable is introduced, three return services will run as VLocity trains seven days a week.

A fourth weekend return Warrnambool service will be also added to the new timetable, while Geelong Line trains will run every 20 minutes on weekends between 8am and 9pm, helping to improve capacity across the entire south west corridor and provide more travel options for passengers.

The introduction of VLocity trains follows the completion of major works on the Warrnambool Line Upgrade, which upgraded more than 60 crossings, delivered a new signalling system and installed a new crossing loop at Boorcan with 2.2km of new track.

VLocity trains are more modern and reliable than classic fleet trains and their introduction will reduce the risk of train faults, resulting in cancellations and disruptions to passenger services.

VLocity trains are also more accessible than classic fleet trains, with accessible bathrooms and dedicated spaces for passengers with mobility aids.
