Off to the races
ALL roads lead to Mortlake this Saturday for the annual running of the town’s largest community event – the 2025 bet365 Mortlake Cup.

Mortlake Racing Club president Bruce Redpath said the club has been working tirelessly behind the scenes to bring together another event for the local and surrounding communities.
He said preparing the track and maintaining the surrounds had been extremely difficult over the past 12 months with the harsh weather conditions, but believed it was a battle which the club had conquered.
“Pre-sales for the day are slightly down on previous years, however despite the current cost of living pressure the club is still delighted with the response to their packages on offer and of course will be accommodating of those people who make a late decision to come along,” he said.
“On course we have something for everyone including free kids’ activities including jumping castle, rock climbing walls, Formula One Simulator Driving Challenges and live music.
“Pan Pacific Melbourne Fashions on the Field will take place with categories including Lady of the Day and Gent of the Day.
“Prizes on offer include accommodation vouchers, fashion vouchers, hospitality vouchers and produce baskets.”

Mr Redpath said facilities for the adults would also be heightened this year.
“Punters will be well catered for on the day with TAB and bookmakers available to take bets on all local, Victorian and Interstate race meetings in the comfort of the improved betting shed,” he said.
“The shed now has a new concrete floor and a new display of TVs for people to watch the races on.
“Seven races are programmed for the day with the first race set to kick off at 1pm with gates open at 11.30am.”
Mr Redpath encouraged those attending to make use of transport options which will be made available.
“Transport options are also available for those wishing to attend, with buses departing at 11.30am from the Cally Hotel in Warrnambool and the Camperdown Clocktower,” he said.
“Local shuttles will run from 11.30am onwards from the Mt. Shadwell and Mac’s Hotel.
“Bookings for the Warrnambool and Camperdown services are required.”
Mr Redpath encouraged people to visit the clubs website to make bookings at www.countryracing/mortlake or call 0400 557 625.
