No fish release due to poor water quality
YOUNG anglers hoping to catch a fish over the school holidays will be out of luck at local spots.

Planned school holiday stockings in fishing spots in Cobden and Simpson did not go ahead due to poor water quality, according to a Victorian Fisheries Authority (VFA) spokesperson.
“As part of our state-wide school holiday program, our Snobs Creek team has been stocking catchable size rainbow trout into waters ahead of the September school holidays,” the spokesperson said.
“Before any stocking activity, we test water quality to ensure fish are entering a safe environment and can thrive.
“Last week, testing showed water quality at Cobden Lake, Simpson Reserve and Tea Tree Lake was not sufficient for fish to be stocked.
“The fish intended for these lakes will be stocked into Lake Pertobe in Warrnambool to make sure families in the south west still have a chance to catch a rainbow trout these holidays.”
Lake Cobden did not receive a stocking in the June school holidays either due to poor water quality.
The Cobden Timboon Coast Times understands low inflows of water in the local waterways could have contributed to the low water quality.
