New plan
WANNON candidate Dan Tehan has thrown his support behind a newly-unveiled election pitch designed to provide cheaper energy under the Coalition’s National Gas Plan.
If elected, a Coalition Government has vowed to create an East Coast Gas Reservation scheme which requires a proportion of exports to be diverted to the domestic market, as part of its National Gas Plan.
The scheme, is designed to address shortfalls and reduce energy prices for Australians.
The plan will deliver between 50-100 petajoules of additional gas to the market, the equivalent to adding a further 10-20 per cent of current domestic demand.
The Coalition will also introduce a gas security incentive to decouple prices from “volatile international markets”.
Mr Tehan said the Coalition said the proposal would be effective in delivering affordable and reliable energy.
“Families, businesses and farms in Wannon have been smashed by some of the highest energy prices in the world since the Albanese Labor Government was elected,” he said.
“Under Labor, household gas prices have increased by 34 per cent over the past three years.
“The Coalition will use Australian gas to help lower the energy bills for Australians.
“Reducing the cost of energy in a cost-of-living crisis will help ease the burden on families, farms and businesses in Wannon.
“Energy prices will always be cheaper under a Coalition Government.”
According to independent advice, the additional supply complemented by the entire National Gas Plan will progressively deliver savings of 15 per cent on industrial customer retail gas bills, seven per cent on residential customer retail gas bills, eight per cent on wholesale electricity prices and three per cent on residential retail electricity bills.
