New nets for Lakers
CAMPERDOWN cricketers are now enjoying new training nets thanks to the efforts of club members and grants from Corangamite Shire and the Australian Cricket Infrastructure Fund.

“This project is certainly a long time in the making and it’s great to see the new nets now being used at training sessions throughout the week,” club secretary Steven Fisher said.
“The old nets were certainly well past their used by dates so they were demolished to make way for this project.
“They (new nets) were originally discussed several years ago but about three years ago the project really started to get traction.”
The three-lane nets, believed to have been constructed at a cost in excess of $100,000, are already proving beneficial to players of all ages.
“This has certainly changed the way we can train, and the format of trainings, as it allows three batsmen in at any one time,” Fisher said.
“Along with the grants, a lot of our members also put in time and in-kind support to get this project across the line. It’s a great asset for our club and for the town.”
