Another step forward: Camperdown’s new $39.6 million aged care facility has now taken another step towards completion.

Minister for Ageing Ingrid Stitt announced on Wednesday ground works and the building frame on the facility are complete, with work on the roof and façade installation now underway.

Creating a safe and comfortable place for residents to call home, the new 36-bed facility will feature a dementia-friendly design, providing a more modern, efficient and safer working environment for staff.

Ms Stitt said residents will be accommodated in single bedrooms with a private ensuite, utilising the concept of ‘small households’ with dedicated kitchen, dining, lounge and break-out sitting areas.

“We’re proud to support older Victorians living in communities like Camperdown to access high-quality public aged care, when they need it, closer to home and loved ones,” she said.

“With views of the clocktower, this new 36-bed facility will provide residents a home-like setting that promotes dignity, privacy, and independence and will enable staff to continue to provide high-quality care and support.”

The ‘small household’ design will create a setting which promotes dignity, people-centred care and independence so residents can ‘age in place,’ which is especially important in regional locations such as Camperdown, allowing residents to stay close to support networks and maintain community connections as their care needs increase.

Residents will also receive open area views, terraces, gardens, and abundant natural light, fostering community connections and enhance residents’ physical and emotional wellbeing to encourage social interaction, while offering a modern, efficient workplace for staff.

Delivered by the Victorian Health Building Authority (VHBA), in partnership with South West Healthcare and AW Nicholson, the project is on track to be completed by 2025.

Member for Western Victoria Gayle Tierney said she was pleased with the progress of the facility.

“This is another significant milestone for this fantastic investment for the south west, providing our older Camperdown locals a new, state-of-the-art facility with the care they need, right on their doorstep,” she said.

The project is being delivered under the Rural and Regional Public Sector Residential Aged Care Services Revitalisation Strategy to modernise ageing facilities which are home to some of our most vulnerable older Victorians.
