Narrow loss for Tigers

SIMPSON’S senior footballers fell short in a tight round 15 contest on Saturday, going down by eight points to the Western Eagles at Irrewillipe.


The Tigers led by seven points at three-quarter time, with the Eagles kicking four goals to two in the last quarter to steal an 11.10.76 to 10.8.68 win.

Brad Salmon, Zach Anderson and Ryleigh McVilly were Simpson’s best.

Spearhead Nick Harding was the Tigers only multiple goal kicker with three, with other goals coming from Brenton De Jong, Brayden Hawkes, Tom Leishman, Mitch Reed, Cody Mason, Noah Ackerley and coach Damien Pemberton.

This week the Tigers host top of the ladder Colac Imperials at the Simpson Recreation Reserve.

In the reserves, Simpson scored a third win of the season, 6.9.45 to 5.1.31.

Jamie Barry, Jason Kordupel and Shaun Guy were Simpson’s best in the win.

Darcy Thorburn and captain Harry Fleming kicked two goals each.

In the under 18s, the Eagles had a big 25.15.165 to 1.1.7 win.

Blake Ferrari, Nate Sambell and Jed Spokes were Simpson’s best, with Darcy Hutton kicking the lone goal.

In the under 15 football, the Eagles took the points with a 20.14.134 to no score win.

Ben Vogels, Fin Mahoney and Xander Weel were best for the Tigers.

The under 12 game saw the Eagles have a 8.9.57 to 2.4.16 win.

Jack Vogels kicked both goals for the junior Tigers.

In the A grade netball, Simpson’s finals hopes were dealt a huge blow with a 54-37 loss to the ninth placed Western Eagles.

The Tigers now sit two wins outside the top five with three rounds to play.

Holly Duynhoven, Shelby Cameron and Sophie Taylor were Simpson’s best in the loss.

Eliza Duynhoven top scored with 27 goals.

The Eagles scored a narrow 42-40 win in the B grade netball.

Best for Simpson were Melissa Drayton, Carol Arndell and Ella Arndell, with Brianna Gass scoring 21 goals and Drayton 19.

In the C grade game, the Eagles had a 40-33 win.

Best for Simpson were Hayley Weel, Casey Tesselaar and Rachael Duynhoven, with Kayla Hallyburton scoring 16 goals.

The C grade match marked 50 senior games for Simpson for Harriette O’Hanlon.

In D grade, the Eagles had a 41-19 win.

Best for Simpson were Leesa Seabrook, Zalli Fisher and Olivia Rhode, with Sharni Ward shooting 13 goals.

The 17 and under match saw the Eagles have a 53-17 win.

Esha Crole, Shayla Daniels and Olivia Rhode were Simpson’s best, with Crole scoring 12 goals.

The Eagles scored a 46-17 win in the 15 and under netball.

MilahCrole, Tyra Sambell and Keisha McVilly were best for Simpson, with McVilly scoring seven goals.

The Eagles got the points in the 13 and under game with a 58-11 win.

Mia Arndell, Alexis Barake and Nyha Ford were Simpson’s best, with Arndell scoring seven goals.
