Eye catching piece: Timboon artist Katherine Fox has completed a mural in Timboon which will form part of a new initiative.

The towns first mural was completed last week in what has been a colourful addition to the town and will form part of the Timboon Mural Trail.

Timboon Mural Trail committee member Heather Martin said she was pleased with how the mural had turned out.

She said artist Katherine Fox began the piece on Friday, December 15 as part of the town’s Christmas festivities and was completed last week.

“It (the mural) gained a lot of interest and comments while she was doing it,” Ms Martin said.

“This is the first of a new mural project that we’re calling the Timboon Mural Trail.

“All of the murals have to be about the artists experience of Timboon and it can fit one of the categories of flora, fauna, food or feeling.

“Katherine loves the flora and fauna of the area so she decided to do some of her favourites that were in her backyard.”

Ms Martin said it had become a talking point in the community.

“It’s added some colour to the town and given something interesting for locals and tourists alike to look at,” she said.

“People can’t wait to see what’s coming up next.

“Going forward we plan to partner with the shire to produce the rest of the murals.”

Ms Martin said the first mural was completed as a joint project with artist Ms Fox donating her time and skills, Claude Love donated his time to prepare the wall for painting, Hire Australia donated the use of a scissor lift for the project and Ms Martin donated the paint for the project.

She said an expression of interest process had begun for the future murals.

“We’ve got about 10 other walls around town that we’re planning to do,” Ms Martin said.

“Interested local artists have submitted expressions of interest.

“If anyone would like to contact me we are after more submissions and ideas – contact info@timboonaction.com.au.
