Mt Leura to mark NAIDOC Week
THIS year’s NAIDOC Week will be kicked off with a special event at Mt Leura this weekend.
The Mt Leura and Mt Sugarloaf Management Committee will be hosting an event on Sunday (July 6) to mark the week, which is a celebration of Indigenous culture and history.
Committee secretary Fran Grundy encouraged residents to gather at the Mt Leura Education Centre at the base of Mt Leura for the event.
“This is our eighth NAIDOC Week event, and we’re always looking to improve on the previous year,” she said.
“We’re very lucky to have First Nations Kirrae Whurrung man Brett Clark to present both the welcome to country sand the smoking ceremony.
“He will also give us his insight into the NAIDOC theme this year, which is The Next Generation – Strength, Vision and Legacy.”
A light morning tea will be provided following proceedings.
The event is supported by a Victoria Landcare Grant and the Corangamite Shire Council.
