Mt Leura committee seeks tree planters
THE Mount Leura and Mount Sugarloaf Management Committee is inviting residents to join them at an upcoming tree planting day at the base of Mount Sugarloaf.

Residents are invited to meet at the Volcanic Education Centre at the base of Mount Leura on Sunday, August 4 from 9.30am.
The planting will officially start at 10am following a brief morning tea, registration and walk to the planting site, and will concluded at 12 noon.
Committee member Simon Buccheri said people who arrive after 10am will need to register at the planting site.
“This planting is in line with the committee’s Management Plan, with the goal to increase species diversity over time through addition of local indigenous species,” he said.
“We will be planting shrubs and small trees as part of our habitat planting on a former grazed area on the west side of the reserve.
“It builds on last year’s tree planting day, where over 50 community members attended and assisted the committee to expand the area of trees, shrubs and grasses on the reserves.
“The majority of plants have been grown and propagated by Friends of Mount Leura. Feel free to come and help plant.”
Mr Buccheri said the planting day was a “great family activity” and families have attended in previous years.
“Come along and enjoy the chance to help plant lots of our local indigenous volcanic plain’s plants,” he said.
“While we are hoping for some sunshine, this planting will happen rain, hail or shine and everyone in the community is welcome.
“Please bring your own gloves and, since the site is sloping and uneven, wear suitable clothing and footwear.
“Planting equipment will be supplied.”
