Reaching the top: Locals and visitors alike accepted the annual challenge to summit Corangamite’s four mountains last Sunday.

Walkers ranged from locals to those coming from as far away as Portland, Melbourne, Ballarat and Geelong – all of whom managed to summit Mt Sugarloaf, Mt Leura, Mt Elephant and Mt Noorat.

Event organiser John Fallon said many of the walkers had been a part of the previous challenges over the event’s history.

“Great views, good challenge on an unusually hot day and a wonderful sense of achievement at the end,” he said.

“You also get a greater understanding of the Victorian Volcanic Plain and its eruption points.

“The event is a yearly challenge in April and is held as a way of showcasing the worthwhile volcanic attractions to locals and visitors.”
