Mortlake Cup draws a crowd
CROWDS turned out in force for the running of this year’s Mortlake Cup.

Mortlake Racing Club president Bruce Redpath said all involved were thrilled with the success of the day.
“It went very, very well,” he said.
“The weather was so kind to us and also the rain was so kind to us in the lead up to the day, which helped with the quality of the track.
“It was considered to be in excellent condition by the racing fraternity.
“The public had all good comments with no complaints.
“The crowd was comparable to last year, and maybe even a bit busier, but the marquees were really well supported.”
Mr Redpath said the track quality had gone a long way towards the high-quality of racing experienced on the day.
“The quality of the racing was up to our usual standard but I think the Warrnambool races being on the Thursday might be taking some of the horses away,” he said.
“Jack Hill had three winners and he’s a pretty handy jockey.
“There might have even been a couple of track records broken so, all-in-all, we’re feeling pretty good about the racing we saw.
“The work from the committee has been fantastic, the work from outsiders has been terrific – even our clean-up day on Sunday was well attend.”
