Mortlake Blue holds third

MORTLAKE Blue remains in third on the district bowls division one ladder despite a loss last weekend.

Mortlake 1 Blue lost to Warrnambool 2 Blue 54-67 (away).

Darren Grant lost to Michael McCallum 18-22; Les Johnson lost to Glen McNaughton 16-23 and George Draffen lost to John Klein 20-22.

Mortlake Blue remains in third place, albeit with a reduced margin.

Fourth placed Warrnambool Gold is one point behind, with Warrnambool 2 Blue six points behind on 72 points.

Mortlake 2 White (division two) lost to Koroit 2 Saints 29-89 (away).

Justin Rasmussen lost to Glen Keane 9-30; Colin Inverarity lost to Richard Farley 13-23; Paul Delaney lost to Tom O’Shannessy 8-36.

Mortlake White dropped down a slot to fifth place on shot difference, with sixth-placed Warrnambool Green two points behind.

Mortlake 3 Gold (div 4) lost to Warrnambool 6 Orange 30-44 (away).

Don Murray lost to Chris Curtin 18-24; Max Heard lost to Greg Howlett 12-20.

Mortlake Gold remains in fourth place on shot difference over City Orange and four points ahead of sixth-placed Koroit 4 Saints.

Mortlake Purple is currently fifth on the ladder, 14 points behind fourth-placed City Jade and will play top-of-the-table City 6 Opals at their venue.

Mortlake White retains its top billing on 91 points, while Mortlake Blue are in second place just six points behind on 85 points.

A reminder that twilight bowls will be played during the autumn season.

This is a good introduction to the sport, with players of all skill levels (especially beginners) welcome to come down and try.

The environment is family-friendly, with a barbecue and bar services.

Anyone interested should phone Scott on 0418 218 547 as entries are now being taken for the autumn competition which will start on Wednesday, January 22.

Mortlake is holding a two-bowl mixed triples tournament on Valentines Day – Friday, February 14.

Start time is 1pm, with five games of six ends (four games plus a bye) $30 per team with afternoon tea included.

There must be one lady or man per team and bowls attire is to be worn.

Members are asked to please take a plate of afternoon tea.

Lee Risk Day is on Sunday, February 2 and is a great afternoon of bowls (followed by afternoon tea).

There is a sign-up sheet near the main entrance of the clubrooms.

Members are encouraged to get their pairs and mixed pairs entries in asap as the first and second rounds start on Sunday, February 9.
