The members of the Terang RSL sub-branch on Monday celebrated four years of Morning Melodies as a full house shuffled through the doors for another successful show.

The Terang RSL hosts Morning Melodies on the fourth Monday of the month, bringing in guest artists both locally and from afar to provide a toe-tapping good time for an enthusiastic crowd.

Mr McKenzie, himself a musician in the band Streamline, acknowledged he had never anticipated the concept would captivate so many when he originally pitched it.

“I asked the club for three months and they said that would be fine,” he said.

“They supported by helping getting it up and going but it’s just grown ever since.

“It’s still growing, and word of mouth is seeing people come along from everywhere.

“We get people visiting from Colac, Timboon, Mortlake, Warrnambool, Port Fairy, Hamilton and further afield.

“It’s been so well supported, even from sponsors – everyone just chips in and helps, and at this point there is just too many names to name.”

The milestone was celebrated this week with in excess of 100 people coming along to show their support, with a number of artists taking to the stage including a special appearance from Heather and David Hoffman from Melbourne.

“It’s one of the best, having 102 people to celebrate our milestone, but we still average about 90 people,” Mr McKenzie said.

“That’s since the COVID-19 pandemic, which is 44 shows.

“We’ve had about 30 different local artists in addition to some from Melbourne and Geelong.

“The Morning Melodies committee of myself, Judy (Walters) and my wife Joyce (McKenzie) work hard but we’re supported by the great RSL members who are a great help.

“We’ve entertained about 3900 people over the four years.”

Morning Melodies will return to the Terang RSL Hall on Shadforth Street from 10am on Monday, July 28.

Entry is $10 with bottomless tea, coffee and water included.
