THE Terang and District Progress Association (TDPA) has put out a call for new members in a bid to keep some of Terang’s most popular events running.

TDPA president Ken McSween said the group was comprised of passionate locals who are committed to making Terang stronger, more vibrant and a better place to live, work, and visit.
“We’re calling on individuals, businesses, service groups, sporting clubs, schools and anyone with community pride to join us,” he said.
“Whether you’re a long-time local or new to the area, your voice matters – and now is the time to get involved.”
Mr McSween said the TDPA was responsible for two annual events, the Colour Terang Festival and the Terang Traders Gala Night, which had become calendar staples for the wider community.
However, as Western District Newspapers reported in May, the Colour Terang Festival has been cancelled for 2025 due to a lack of volunteers to assist with the event.
Mr McSween remained optimistic the event could return bigger and better in 2026 if new membership joined the TDPA, with many hands making light work.
“Our other event, the Terang Traders Gala Night, just celebrated 50 years,” he said.
“It’s a beloved tradition that supports our local businesses in the lead-up to Christmas.
“We’re also proud to have played a key role in hosting the Aged Care Futures Forum, which led to the creation of a new organisation now exploring a 60-70-unit retirement village in Terang.
“That’s the power of people coming together for a common cause.”
Mr McSween said all were welcome to apply with hopes of building a strong, connected Terang.
“We welcome individual members, but we’re also encouraging groups such service clubs, sporting teams, schools and community organisations to nominate a representative to attend quarterly meetings and share ideas or concerns,” he said.
“We only meet four times a year, on the third Wednesday of the month, and the time commitment is minimal – but the impact is potentially massive.
“Whether you can give time, ideas, resources, or even just encouragement – your contribution will make a difference.”
Anyone interested in becoming a TDPA member can download a membership form from terang.org.au or email terangprogresssecretary@gmail.com to get involved or ask any questions.
Mr McSween said he believed volunteers working together could have a significant impact on making Terang a place everyone could proudly call home.
“We would love to see as many people as possible there to help us chart a new future for the Terang and district area,” he said.
“Please be assured that there is no pressure to fill a role, but if you wish to that would be awesome.
“There are two roles already vacant – the secretary and treasurer roles, both of which have assistants to help whenever required and are fully supported.”
