Magpies re-appoint Leader

Leader, in her first year as Magpie mentor, is thrilled to commit for a second season.

“I was asked a few weeks ago and wanted to have it all finalised quickly,” Leader said.

“It was a pretty easy decision to re-commit, I’ve really enjoyed this year at Camperdown.”

Leader has enjoyed working with the young talent at the Magpies and sees plenty of upside.

“It feels like we’ve done a lot this year, it’s exciting to have that second year to keep the build going,” she said.

“Our young list is coming along well but there’s still so much development to do.”

Being based in Geelong, the travel is the only negative aspect for Leader.

“When weighing up the pros and cons of being at Camperdown, the only con was the travel which can sometimes be difficult.

“When I’m there though, Camperdown is a great place to be.”

For Leader, netball is a full-time gig and her main passion.

In addition to her role with the Magpies, Leader is head coach of netball at Westbourne Grammar in Truganina, working Monday to Thursday every week.

Leader also runs her own coaching academy in Geelong for one-on-one sessions or small groups, as well as school holiday programs.

“Netball is my life, I’m so lucky to be able to be involved in it full-time,” she said.

While the Magpies still have plenty to play for in 2025, looking ahead with their list management is also a priority.

“We’ve started reaching out to everyone on the list to see where they’re at.

“With a young squad there’s always lots of variables such as year 12, university or gap years.”

The club also announced that goal shooter Nell Mitchell has re-committed for 2026.

“It’s great to have Nell back on board again,” Leader said.

“Keeping our list together is our main aim, and we’ll be looking at recruiting options as well in coming weeks.”
