Magpies hunt first win

CAMPERDOWN’S senior foot-ballers will be keen to notch up their first win of the season when they host Koroit this weekend.

The Magpies, under the direction of senior coach Neville Swayn, went down to Hamilton by 39 points last Saturday.

“The loss was pretty disappointing,” Swayn said.

“Our group effort was terrific but our execution is a problem. We seem to have no problems leading and finding the footy but what we do with it is letting us down and that’s something we need to continue working on.

“We’ve held our opposition to about 10 goals for the first two rounds and our defensive pressure has been good but we need to look at our forward entries and execution.”

Swayn made particular mention of the efforts of Cameron Spence and Matt Field on Saturday.

“As an on-baller, Cameron gave us plenty of drive from clearances and Matt, who is a natural winger, also gave us drive and works hard defensively.”

Facing Koroit at home this weekend, Swayn expects another tough battle.

“Koroit has been the benchmark for the last decade but their side has probably changed a fair bit this season; they’re probably a bit smaller and younger – and they were well beaten last weekend so will also be hungry for a win.”

Final scores were Camperdown 3.11.29 to Hamilton 10.8.68.

Best for the Magpies were Matthew Field, Cameron Spence, Jake Dowell and Brayden Griffin.

Goals went to Dowell, Angus Gordon and Sam Gordon.

The reserves also suffered a loss on the weekend, going down by 17 points, 6.3.39 to 8.8.56.

Best for the Magpies were Luke Ball, Jake Clissold, Leigh Ball, Isaac McVilly, Paddy Baker and Nick Castle.

Luke Ball kicked three goals while Paddy Baker, Riley Kayler-Thomson and Logan Mahony contributed one each.
