Lismore dominates Greenville Association
LISMORE Cricket Club is celebrating a 2023/24 season premiership in the Grenville Cricket Association.
The grand final match, played at Smythesdale Recreation Reserve last Sunday, saw Lismore defeat Carranballac.
Having lost the toss and being sent in to bat first, Lismore openers Lachie Constable (44) and Jonte Jarred (10) got the side off to a strong start, while middle order batsman Charlie Brett contributed a quick 54 runs from 59 deliveries, including seven boundaries.
He was well supported by team-mates Clint Dudman (36) and Hayden Brett (15).
Cooper Cahill finished the day unbeaten on 15, with the team making 5/189 at the end of 40 overs.
In reply, Carranballac was contained to 10/112 in the 34th over thanks to accurate bowling and strong fielding efforts from the Lismore side.
Charlie Brett led the way with the ball, taking 3/21 from eight overs while Jonte Jarred was also solid with 3/31 from eight.
Ronan Walters proved handy with the ball, taking 2/0 off just four balls while Hayden Brett 1/22 also contributed.
Lismore Cricket Club president Scott Walker congratulated the team on its win, saying it was the club’s first premiership since its division two victory in 2005/06.
“Apart from myself, who played in the 2005/06 premiership and A Reserve North 2002/03, last weekend was everyone else’s first senior premiership which is something special,” Walker said.
“This was especially so for the likes of locals Kelly Brain, Clint Dudman (over 20 games), Charlie Brett, Hayden Brett and Ronan Walters who’ve all contributed a lot to keep the club going over the last 10 years.
“The inclusion of Cooper and Josh Cahill (from Skipton), Lachie Constable (formerly from Ballarat/Redan), Jonte Jarred (Wendouree), Lachie Nelson (Cressy) and Jack Atkins (formerly Camperdown) allowed all the pieces of the puzzle to come together this season.”
The club also congratulated Hayden Brett who finished runner-up in the Grenville Cricket Association’s best and fairest award.
