Liquor stolen from IGA
POLICE have arrested a 16-year-old boy following a break-in at Camperdown’s IGA store over the weekend.
Corangamite Senior Sergeant Bill Caldow said the offender smashed his way into the back of the supermarket at about 4am on Saturday, May 31.
“The glass sliding door was smashed, and a sledgehammer-type mallet was used,” he said.
“The offender cut himself quite badly on the way in – there was a fair bit of blood left at the scene. Alarms were set off.
“He went to the liquor part of the supermarket, where he stole about five-10 packs of alcohol – the value of the alcohol was around $200. Security and police attended.
“Following further inquiries, police attended at a Camperdown address where the alcohol was recovered, and a 16-year-old boy was arrested.
“He was interviewed and charged by the Warrnambool Criminal Investigations Unit and has been remained to Warrnambool Children’s Court.”
The offender is facing charges of burglary, theft and criminal damage.
